Freescale Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) solution

The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) provides assistance and complement to the driver during complex vehicle handling and ultimately leads to driverlessness in the future. Features provided by ADAS include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, night vision, lane keeping assist and collision warning systems with automatic steering and brake intervention. Predictive ADAS can partially control the movement of the vehicle to prevent accidents. These automatic safety features paved the way for future autonomous vehicles. From today's safety-assisted vehicles to future autonomous vehicles, Freescale drives the world's most innovative ADAS solutions with expertise in automotive, MCU, analog and sensor, and digital networking portfolios. .

Basic rear view camera for Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)

The rearview camera system helps the driver to find objects or people behind the car so that they can reverse and securely park in place while ensuring safety. A 1 megapixel high dynamic range (HDR) camera is deployed in the advanced system, and cost-effective high-speed Ethernet connectivity and video compression are achieved through unshielded twisted pair. Other system requirements include proper physical layer interfaces and power supplies. The highly integrated Qorivva MPC5604E 32-bit MCU uses Power Architecture® technology to handle video streaming and camera control, reducing the required communication bandwidth to less than 100 Mbps. The MPC5604E MCU uses low latency video compression and intelligent bandwidth management to improve image quality. The MPC5604E MCU supports IEEE® 802.1AS Precision Time Protocol (PTP) compatible with Ethernet AVB for precise synchronization of camera exposure.

Intelligent driver vision camera for advanced driver assistance system (ADAS)

The smart rearview camera analyzes the video content locally for object and pedestrian detection. In addition, they support comprehensive local image processing and graphic overlay creation. They measure object distance and trigger brake intervention. This feature helps the driver to safely reverse the car and park them in the parking space. Freescale's high integration and low power consumption enable the development of extremely small camera modules. The smart rearview camera uses the same interface as the simple analog camera, providing an attractive upgrade path.

Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) front view camera

The camera system in the advanced driver assistance system can analyze video content to provide lane departure warning (LDW), automatic lane keeping assist (LKA), high beam/low beam control, and traffic sign recognition (TSR). In the forward-looking black-and-white camera, the image sensor provides incoming video frames to the dual-core MCU with DSP extension for image processing. Other system requirements include the provision of appropriate physical communication interfaces, power supplies, optional DRAM, and embedded flash memory that reduces system cost.

Visionary Assistance System for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

The multi-camera look-around parking assist system captures images from around the vehicle and displays them on the screen in a virtual top view. The angle of view moves dynamically according to the driving trajectory, providing a 360-degree picture around the vehicle.

Advanced systems typically deploy 4 to 5 high dynamic range (HDR) 1 megapixel cameras with cost-effective links such as LVDS or Fast Ethernet. Video compression can be used to reduce the required communication bandwidth and reduce wiring requirements (for example, unshielded twisted pair or coaxial cable can be used).

Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) 77 GHz radar system

The 77 GHz radar system supports adaptive cruise control, collision protection and collision warning systems with or without automatic steering and brake intervention. In the collision warning system, the radar chipset can detect and track the target, automatically adjust the speed of the vehicle according to the traffic conditions ahead and control the distance from the preceding vehicle, alert the driver and initiate emergency braking intervention in the event of an impending collision.
