Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) today announced the availability of the industry's smallest form factor and the highest efficiency of the latest 6 A converters, further enriching its popular SWIFTTM family of power management ICs. The new TPS54618 single-chip synchronous switch features two integrated 12-milliohm FETs that deliver 95% efficiency and low operating current for 2.95 V to 6 V point-of-load designs for DSP and FPGA communications, test, and medical equipment. The TPS54618 is 30% smaller than other 6 A devices and the total solution size is only 140 square millimeters. The integrated converter supports high performance and high reliability including current mode control, simplifies external compensation, and enables highly flexible component selection, especially for small ceramic capacitors. The easy-to-use, scalable TPS54618 is pin compatible with other low current SWIFT synchronous buck converters such as the 3A, 2 MHz TPS54318.
