Cimon's head will bring artificial intelligence to the International Space Station

According to foreign media SlashGear, Airbus and IBM personnel will bring the Crew InteracTIve MObile CompanioN (CIMON) robot head to the International Space Station this summer. This robotic head has never really been connected to a robot, it is built specifically for the International Space Station. This robot head will bring artificial intelligence to the International Space Station.

The European Space Agency astronaut Dr. Alexander Gerst will stay at the International Space Station from May to December 2018, where he will become the commander of the 57th expedition. From June to October 2018, Gerst will test CIMON's ability as a "technical performer."

A representative of Airbus said: "CIMON is designed to support astronauts in their day-to-day work, for example by demonstrating programs or using their 'neural' AI network and their learning capabilities to provide solutions to problems. It uses Watson AI in the IBM cloud. Technology, and with its voice and artificial intelligence, become the true 'colleague' of astronauts on the International Space Station."

We already have a Watson AI experience in the form of a children's toy called Dino. CogniToys leverages IBM's artificial intelligence created in Watson AI and implants it into a small "dinosaur" brain like Yoda.

According to Airbus, CIMON will be "sent as early as March 2018" to be sent to space. During the first parabolic flight of the German Space Agency (DLR), CIMON will focus on testing and optimizing the GNC algorithm under zero gravity. These algorithms will include control, navigation, and guidance. Another "practice" of CIMON on ISS is to work with human partners to solve Rubik's Cube problems.

CIMON will also conduct crystal tests on the International Space Station and “make complex medical experiments”. The latter of these two exercises will use CIMON as the "smart camera."
