In mid-2014, the Tibet Autonomous Region Key Laboratory of Solar Photovoltaic and Thermal Utilization was established. In October of the same year, the project “Application Research of Step-by-Step Photovoltaic Power Generation in Electric Vehicle Charging” was launched, making full use of clean new energy and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction. With the recent development of photovoltaic charging piles suitable for the plateau, a new photovoltaic charging station was born. The installed capacity of the photovoltaic charging station is 20KW. Under normal daylight, it can provide full capacity for up to 3 electric vehicles per day without relying on the power grid. Charging; using photovoltaic grid-connected technology, when no light is available, electric power can be obtained from the power grid to meet the charging demand of the electric vehicle; when there is light or no electric vehicle charging, excess electric energy can supply power to the grid to obtain power generation revenue.

Hong Liang introduced: “The photovoltaic charging station uses the photovoltaic modules above the carport to convert the solar energy into electrical energy, and then inputs it into the storage battery for storage. The optical storage integrated converter is rectified and sent to a dedicated charging pile. The charging pile is automatically charged according to different charging parameters. After adjustment, the electric car is sent to complete the charging.” It is simple to say, however, it took more than a year to develop a photovoltaic charging pile. The reason is that there is no similar finished product in China at present, and the plateau climate has special needs for electrical equipment. Therefore, the researchers of the key laboratory of solar photovoltaic and thermal utilization in Tibet Autonomous Region can only use the "imagination" to design and conceive their own products. When it comes to the hardest part of scientific research, Hong Liang said that it is mainly to solve the problem of voltage coverage. Because the electric vehicle models are different, the required charging voltage is different. In order to allow different types of electric vehicles to be charged here, it is necessary to solve the versatility problem. After the brainstorming of the research team, they finally used voltage coverage technology to overcome this difficulty. Today, the photovoltaic charging station can provide DC180v ~ 550v, DC5A ~ 105A power supply, to meet the charging needs of most electric vehicles.

Tibet has abundant photovoltaic resources, with an average annual sunshine time of over 3,000 hours.

Tibet's solar energy resources rank first in the country and it is also one of the most abundant solar energy resources in the world. The solar radiation in most parts of the region averages 6680-8400 megajoules per square meter, which is more than double that of the same latitude plain. The average annual sunshine hours are between 3,000 and 3,600 hours, with an increasing distribution from east to west. Direct radiation accounts for 56%-78% of the total radiation and 71%-78% in summer. According to estimates, in Lhasa, the area of ​​the roof of an ordinary car, absorbing the energy of the sun for a day, can make 100-watt incandescent lights for about 10 hours.

According to statistics from years of monitoring data, the total amount of solar radiation in Tibet is equivalent to about 350-400 billion tons/year of standard coal. According to the 2013 Statistical Communiqué on National Economic and Social Development issued by the National Bureau of Statistics, the total energy consumption for the whole year of 2013 was 3.75 billion tons of standard coal. In other words, the solar radiation energy of Tibet in 2013 was converted into standard coal. The total amount of the year is equivalent to nearly 100 years of national energy consumption.

If the electric kWh is calculated according to the commercial price of 1 yuan, an electric car costs about 0.18 yuan per mile. So, what is the situation with ordinary cars? "Equivalent models of diesel vehicles cost at least 1 yuan per kilometer to drive! The investment in building such a solar photovoltaic charging station is estimated to be 500,000 yuan, which can be used for 20 years. The annual charging (power generation) income is nearly 40,000 yuan. The carbon emission reduction income, so the economic and environmental value is very impressive!" Hong Liang said.
