The rise of the Japanese SVOD market ranks among the top five in the world

Japan has the second largest home entertainment market in the world after the United States. At present, Japan is pregnant with a huge subscription-based streaming media on demand service (SVOD) market. Leading companies include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu.

According to Ampere Analysis data, the market share of these three companies has increased from 23% to 56% in the past two years, and their number of subscribers will exceed 6.5 million at the end of 2017.

In fact, the Japanese SVOD market has already ranked among the top five in the world. The top four are the United States, China, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Ampere said that with the increase of market share, content supply will also increase.

It is worth pointing out that Japan has surpassed the United States as the largest market for Netflix in terms of content.

Ampere pointed out that in July, Netflix Japan had more than 7.7 million content items, 7.6 million in the United States and 6.6 million in Canada. This was followed by 6.1 million in the United Kingdom and 5.7 million in Brazil.

Analysts said: "Because of fierce subscriber competition, the content of the Japanese market has continued to grow. In the past year, both domestic and international content resources have high demand."
